Just started looking into tyres on my Cayman. Seems to be not a straight forward subject. It seems to be that you are looking at summer tyres and winter tyres when you look at brands. Not doing a great deal of miles but interested in staying on the road in winter what’s the option in regards?

Thoughts appreciated

Thanks

Set of Pirelli Winters and this went anywhere in winter conditions and faster than you might think. It hasn't been out in winter for years but a decent set of winters on these and they perform very well in winter conditions. Summers, I recommend the Conti Sport 7s.

Hi Grant,
A lot depends on which variant of Cayman and wheels.
From your previous posts, I assume 2012 Cayman (nonS). If, like me, you're on 17" wheels then I believe there are no winter tyres and the only all season tyres are Hankook Kinergy 4s. So far I have been impressed but I did not go out in the recent snow.

Hi,

I am on 18s , check rear tyres and they are at 1.8mm so won’t be too long!

Recommendations would depend on where you live - Scotland or Surrey?

Are you going to be commuting in the car, early morning/late evening no matter how cold?

Otherwise you really don't need anything but 'summers' in Essex, if you are sensible. You are more likely to be caught out by a diesel spill. IMHO.

PS4S are a pretty good choice for year round grip. Great in the wet and will cope wirh everything short of hard core trackday use on a hot/dry day.

No idea what they are like in deep snow, entertaining probably hehe.

Winter tyres aren't really necessary in the south of England, they only perform better than summer tyres when the temperature drops below 7°C.

They are not appropriate for year-round use, to run winter tyres properly you need to keep two sets of tyres and swap them over twice a year like they do in Germany.

Blimey, if you are down to 1.8mm now and fine, then I would say just get something like a PS4S for all year round use.

I always change mine at 3mm or 4 years old, whichever comes first.

Yeah will definitely looking into this in the New Year. I do get to drive Mustang 5l during the year a bit and that is much harder to handle with new tyres than the Porsche.🫤
