I definitely don’t need another car but……

A friend in my village is liberating some cash to finally do his Mk1 Golf GTI convertible so decided to sell some of his cars. One was a liquid yellow R27, which I’d seen a few times but never really thought about.

But when we were chatting and never having owned a proper hot hatch, I could not stop thinking about it. Un-modified with loads done but needs a few minor bits and at a mates rate to avoid the pain of tyre-kickers, it seemed a no-brainier. So here it is in the drive, you can’t see my less than impressed wife!

Few short drives and what a go kart. Needs a few bits, eg thermostat as does not get up to temp, air con not working, few bits of plastic trim etc. but all there.

More to follow and looking forward to my hot hatch years as a 55 year old!

Lovely cars these, 14 years after selling my Liquid Yellow 200 (Best colour ever imo) and I still pine for another 197/200!

Great stuff! I did something similar with a Clio Williams 3 yesterday…..definitely didn’t need it, but it was local and seemed a decent price. Oops!

I nearly bought one of those in period .. haggled on the Saturday, went back on the Monday morning to buy it and it had sold !!

So I set-up the deal for somebody else ...

I just bought the Twingo 133 Cup on a whim ... what a lovely thing and fast enough ... in amazingly unused and well looked after condition.

Great purchase, I've just picked up a 197 myself to be my new daily driver, it works great as an everyday car and is great fun to drive without too much power to over do it in road use.

Good news for your issues is there are loads of places to get bits online, check out Renualt parts direct (RPD), Kam racing, K Tec and Frogjam motorsport to mention a few beyond your main dealers etc.

A few jobs done. Thermostat swapped so get to 1/3 on a run and just under 1/2 in traffic. There seemed to be a single part number, which threw up 2 different opening values. 75 and 90 deg C. I believe 75 is the correct value.

Seat trim sorted. Next on list is steering wheel off to adjust. Previous owner replaced it with a new item but it sits 15 deg off centre but tracks straight. V annoying.

Also need to sort front lip and bumper wing fir n/s. But too cold and miserable outside on the drive so far!

But been trying to use it as a daily driver. Stutter has definitely improved with a few tanks of new fuel, my mate had it sitting for months in his lock up. Seats are great and brakes v good, helped by being such a light car. Only downside is a bit low geared, 3500 rpm at 70mpg, but it was never a motorway car. But loving the nimbleness. Proper old school Frenchie hot hatch.

Just wish for some nice weather to do external jobs and a proper polish.
