I've got a 1973 Rover P5B - it's currently hibernating out of the rain and the salt until at least the new year. In the 3 1/2 years I've had it the gearbox has not been serviced, and looking at the history file there's nothing going back about 15 years or so (about 15,000 miles). I will get it done next year, but speaking to a few autobox specialists they are reluctant to undertake the job. It's a fairly common gear box and has no weird electronics. I assume that spares availability is declining.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a specialist based in Lancashire (Preston area)?

Have you tried Auto gearbox repair on Walker St in Preston. I don't walk past that often but I'm sure I've seen older cars inside.
