I 'think' you're a year early. How can you self assess before the fy has ended.

You can notify HMRC NOW to let them know that you will need to submit a Self Assessment tax retturn for 2024/25.

HMRC will issue you with a Self Asessment Tax Reference (SATR) and will send you a letter some time after 5 April 2025 reminding you that you will need to submit the tax return by 31 January 2026.

See my reply above. You can notify HMRC now.

The rules actually say that you should notify HMRC as soon as you are aware that you will need to start completing Self Assessment tax returns.

Have you got a govt gateway account set up?
When you’re on the check how to register page on the gov website bypass the link that says “check if you need to register” and just hit “start now” which appears to bypass the question about 23/24 income.

Maybe worth a read https://www.xero.com/uk/guides/how-to-create-gover...

start now is leading to the same 23-24 stuff /questions

maybe register for gateway now , then self assessment between 1st feb and oct 25 ?

Not sure what page you’re looking at but “start now” on this link bypasses the income question.
https://www.gov.uk/register-for-self-assessment

You will need a govt gateway account before you’re able to register though.

Just as well you’ve plenty time to figure it out. smile

It’s just a question to see if you’re already registered or a first timer.

Just hit “No I’m registering for the first time” then “Next step” which take you to a page where there’s a link to “business tax account”. If you follow that link it takes you to the govt gateway page where I think you can create your gateway account.
