I have 10 or 15 year old Oyster card I add credit to and use on London Underground. But is there any point as apparently you can now just use your normal debit card to tap in & out?

Just use your bank card. I think the cost is the same.

Yup. There's no advantage to using the oyster card, apart from if you lose it, it's just your oyster card rather than your bank card. I tend to use my phone these days. Takes a day or so for the total to correct itself, but never had any issues

I believe the only advantage to an Oyster card is you get better tracking of usage.

Tracking WAS the same with the debit card until they got hacked!

I still use my Oyster as it helps me keep track of what I spend on public transport more easily.

Also, Oyster is faster tapping in and out than contactless and esp phone.

But for the occasional visitor, contactless is great. Easy and convenient, no need to top up.

You can setup your debit card on the TFL site and this will enable journey tracking if you need it for expenses.

I refuse to use my debit or credit card as I don't want them having access to my bank account. Especially for when they overcharge.

And yes, people tapping in on their feking phones meaning that I miss the 512pm and thus my connection frown

It’s working again now. Took them ages though.

I use Oyster card and have my railcard registered on it to get off peak discount. Not sure you can do this with a debit card.

From a personal perspective I’d have a dedicated card, find it stressful faffing around trying to get bank cards from wallet in a rush!
