Solid concrete floors, looking to replace this threshold with a slightly wider one ( to cover the carpet edge) in an oak finish to match the flooring.

Does the old aluminium one just lever up, then stick a new one down with silicon or something?

In theory, one side will have gripper pins to hold the carpet and if you release the carpet and pull it back you'll see screw holes in the plate. At that point you should then see how it has been fixed, whether screwed, glued or even floating.

How you fix the replacement is personal choice. Drilling and plugging the concrete is probably belt and braces but I suspect most people just silicone them and never incur any issues. Maybe base that decision on how much footfall?

I watched as a carpet fitter installed one in my house the other day. Literally eyeballed it, cut to size, then ran stone sealant along the bottom and shoved it in place. Seems fine

Glue/sealant would be the simplest path then.
