Taxing A Car For One Day?

Have an old thing in the garage that gets taken out for a pub trip once evry few months....don't really want to pay £350 tax....if you set up a DD in the morning, drive it and cancel it in the afternoon do you think the system will still try and take one months payment?

No, the DD will take 2-3 working days minimum to appear against your account before they can even attempt to take money, and that takes at least another couple of working days. You can easily just cancel it and get a couple of weeks or more.

Keep the email saying you've just taxed it for the very unlikely event you get stopped, it won't show on their system straight away.

Stand by for mithering PH crybabies to tell you that's akin to clubbing a baby seal to death in front of a nursery school class.

I have done this a few times, have taxed a car for up to a few days near the end of the month then cancelled at the end to avoid paying for the next month and found I've not been charged at all.
I feel like 1 day there will be an audit and dvla will come after me for the missing charges but they haven't so far.

My dad kept doing this, ended up essentially getting blacklisted for the DD on that car. Could tax 6 months or 12 months but no other option

The first payment is usually scheduled for two weeks time so you could swerve the payment.
However as has already been mentioned your bank account will be prevented from being used for debit payment in future.

FYI when I say I cancelled it, I mean sorned the car.
I've always left the direct debits in place so they could take the payment if they wanted to but so far that has not happened.
