Ford Focus St-3
Discussion
Hi,
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2024082632...
I was hoping for some advice. I found this car and hopefully going to look at it this week and test drive. Has anybody got any experience on owning one and what it's like? Mainly for the servicing and running costs for parts.
Thanks,
Jamie

Had mine for a few months, looked at quite a few before buying this one.
Overall there are no major red flags
Things to look at:
Cambelt and water pump due at 100k miles OR 10 years, £500 ISH bill
They eat front tyres (400nm torque will do that) I found Kumho ecsta ps71s to be a good solution to the costs / performance metric
The rear arches seem to get hit my stones on the edge facing the rear doors, I saw quite a few where this had gone unchecked and started to rust
The bonnets seem prone to stone chips, some I saw looked like they had followed a gritter for 200 miles
There seems to be 3 types when I was looking: 1) people who bought it as an ST and cherished it 2) people who bought is as a diesel focus and ran it on a shoestring, including mismatched budget tyres 3) those who badly modify them. Make sure you shop around
On the test drive watch the boost gauge, is should got just over 3/4s boost, if it does highers it's been remapped
My research suggests there are no major things to look for, they are a pretty robust car. I'm getting 45 mog in mixed driving, it's smooth and handles well
I can't see me getting rid of mine: good size for a family car, handles well, fast enough, frugal, it's a ford so parts are reasonably priced
That one has had 9 owners which on alot of cars might be a red flag but alot of STs seems to be like that, my theory is people get these, fall in love with the drive and swap to the petrol version for more speed, or they find the ride a little harsh and the appetite for tyre annoying
I'd by solely based on 1 thing... Condition
