I’m thinking about adding extra lights to my pickup as the standard (HID) headlights are a bit crap and it’s properly dark where I live.
A roof mounted light bar would give the the added bonus of seeing into the fields a bit and hopefully giving me extra notice before interactions with the local deer .

Are roof mounted lights ok to use if they’re wired to come on with main beam? Or is the brightness more of an issue?
I’m finding quite a bit of conflicting advice,

I don't know the correct answer but I've had two vehicles which had factory-fitted roof lights (LR Discovery and Nissan X Trail) and they could only be switched on when main beam was selected.

I had an aftermarket roof mounted light bar and additional bumper mounted front spotlights on my Wrangler which were switched on / off independently of anything on the indicator stalk. I had 3 MOTs over my ownership and they weren't flagged as an issue.
