I have a 16 year old Mitsubish colt as a second car. Its a good little runner and the only thing it has failed the MOT on is a large crack running the entire length of the windscreen. I don't have windscreen insurance. I checked autoglass and they wanted over £500 for a windscreen. A local independent windscreen place was a similar price. The car is barely worth that. Who offers the cheapest windscreens in the industry? Happy to order the glass and bond it in myself if needs be (I have done that a few times over the years)

If I can't find anything substantially cheaper, its a shame as I will have to scrap the car, as I really don't fancy throwing £500 at it.

Have you tried the ‘third party windscreens” franchise?

From what I can see, it's going to be around £300-500 regardless.

Where are you based?

Second hand one is a shout if you can find a breakers that doesn't use a hammer to remove everything.

A Second hand genuine screen would be far superior to a pattern part anyway.

It's a non starter as it's been officially recorded on the MOT history.

My track record of cutting out windscreens from old cars is not great. I probably have a 40% success rate. Plus many of these listings you phone up and the windscreen is already cracked

I use a guy in Redditch so I appreciate he's no good for you - but he's an independent and he just fitted a new screen in my Vito for £190

Everyone else wanted £500+

So I can only suggest you keep phoning around

Appreciate Scotland does not indicate your local area, but Euro Windscreens and Highland Windscreens are my go-to names up there.
