2021 onwards S1000R

I apologise if this has been done to death elsewhere, but I'm after real world, owner experiences of these, 2021 onwards.
They weren't really on the radar but the used prices are pretty attractive atm, £10k or thereabouts gets me onto a 2022 with Sport pack and 2 yr BMW warranty. The general feeling seems to be they're excellent but a bit bland motor wise? Not sure how 165 bhp can be but perhaps it won't be quite as beguiling as a V4 or cross plane but think I'm ok with that, in light of the many good points etc.
I'm 6"2' so will be looking at changing the seat to the tall one, 850mm seat height so it'll be well set up for Euro hooning etc.
Just waiting for a dry day for a demo now! Cheers.

Motor is sound pulls hard all the way through. 165mph down back straight at Bedford. Corners well traction is great and brakes are strong. Can be really light on front shaking it's head s fair bit. To the point I put a YSS damper on mine.

BMW will be happy to send you out on a demo for a couple of hours, you can then decide for yourself how bland or not the bike is …thats what I did anyway when , I did prefer the earlier version (Gen2) over the latter 2021 models but its a lot of bike and great VFM…Ive also found BMWs service/dealer network to be always be excellent, that may or may carry any importance to you but its worth factoring in as well, i’m on my 3rd BMW now.

I had a 2014 S1000R. It was brilliant. I’ve also had a Tuono. That was better. Sounded better, more characterful engine and didn’t get numb right hand. However only marginally better and the S1000R was still great.

Thanks, it is a lot of bike and I also like the quality feel of it, although reliability not on Honda level by all accounts. That said the dealer network helps as does the 24mth warranty etc. Demo was supposed to have been yesterday but life got in the way again, need to make a decision, it's driving me mad!Stevemtb said:

You're totally right, demo should have happened yesterday but now I'm here bugging the internet for opinions and it's not like a haven't had bikes for 35 years plus! Never thought I would stoop so low! I tried one, it was beautifully smooth, all the controls felt quality compared to my APRILIA. Super comfy, went really well (they can make 180/190hp with a map and full system)
Best screen on the bike market.
Elec suspension has lots of change based on different settings.
The inline 4 is a reason I would buy one, I don’t understand the bland comments, to me smooth with a revvy top end is what a bike is about….much prefer to a lumpy twin or Ducati v4.

i think it would be worth trying some of the competition as well as the s1000r.
i swapped an s1000rr for a new 2015 s1000r and had it for five years. i changed it over in 2020 for a tuono factory with the electronics ohlins and it was complete night and day IN MY OPINION.
Regardless of tyres tried, suspension settings etc i found mine to be as wobbly as an old '81 z1000j i had. unbelievably easy to ride, pulls like fck from 25 in top but - only after i tried the tuono - i realised i'd been missing a bit of soul. the handling on the tuono as well is rock solid. just my tuppence worth and certainly not trying to offend bm fan boys.
