Got a manhole cover in the garden which is in need of replacing. It's surrounded by grass and I think a combination of bad previous installation and mud/grass growing around has meant only option is to replace.

My plan is to life as the manhole cover and remove as much of the mud/grass as possible before relaying another.

From the guides I need to lay it on a bed of mortar and then edge with 45 degrees but unsure which mortar to buy or if it doesn't really matter

Either will suit but use the non-rapid if it's your first time using mortar.

I've used the one from Screwfix not too long ago to patch up some brickwork and so far it seems alright but will go for the longer one as I know it'll take time to bed & then point nicely.

A 5kg tub should be plenty?
