Police supplied incorrect evidence

Questions
Which car is yours? Is it the one circled in the top left picture?
One would assume that your number plate is in fact legible, otherwise how would you have got this NIP from them?
Were you doing 81mph at the time?
On the face of it, it seems like you've been caught and they've just sent the wrong zoomed-in image of your car.

Yes - my car is the one in the top left image that they have attempted to circle.
In the images provided, you cannot make out my registration but yes they must have got my registration from somewhere.
However, they've provided incorrect evidence so surely I can just say that the vehicle shown in the image isn't mine?
Well, no - because your car is shown in the images, just not the one they've zoomed in on.In the images provided, you cannot make out my registration but yes they must have got my registration from somewhere.

It looks pretty clear to me that they've measured the speed of your car - hence it being circled and the lines drawn on it.
They've just zoomed in on the wrong car to highlight the plate.
It's perhaps worth going back to them and asking for a zoomed-in copy of your number plate as the zoomed-in one you got was wrong, but will it change anything? You know that it's your car so all it will do is stall until the inevitable.
Were you doing 81mph? (Speedo 85mph-ish?)
It was dark so you presumably clocked the flash?

I don't think they need to send out zoomed in pictures.
I don't think ANPR needs a single zoomed in image to take the reg from, I've worked with 'machine reading' where the camera can collate the information over many frames to correctly pick the text out of a blurred video stream.
The picture is mostly to weed out Romanian lorries with the same numbers as beemers with vanity plates and the like.
Given that the photo clearly states that the vehicle that's been recorded doing 81mph is in Lane 4 I don't believe you will get anywhere with trying to claim that they haven't produced "evidence" of the offence. The "zoomed in" image of the wrong vehicle is immaterial, especially as it can be observed to be in Lane 1 so is clearly not an image of the "offending" vehicle.
I believe that close up is something that's manually generated to aid you with identification but the main photo is all the evidence that they need as it clearly shows location, speed, time etc. The fact that you received the NIP also means that they can read the plate even if you can't !
At 81mph you should still be offered an SAC unless you've already done on in the last 3 years....in which case you're looking at a simple 3 points and £100 fine

I think OP you are dragging out the inevitable, granted they have sent in a zoomed image of the wrong vehicle but they will be able to quickly rectify it as the images state they have registered the speed of the vehicle in lane 4.
By all means go back to them again and roll the dice, but they clearly have your registration logged because they have written to you as the registered keeper.

I received a notice of intended prosecution for doing 81mph in a 70 on the M1. I went onto the online portal and could not see my vehicle registration.
I sent a message to the police asking for another form of evidence. They posted the images to me but they're of a different vehicle. My vehicle is in the background but you can't make out the registration. The images show a different car and the zoomed in image of the registration plate is a different vehicle.
Where do I stand with this? They obviously got my registration from somewhere because they sent me the initial document but they've now supplied incorrect evidence.

Yea it is funny that they've sent the "incorrect evidence" lol.
Thanks all, I will go back to them and say the vehicle in the images provided isn't mine and see what they say.
Simple clerical error. Thanks all, I will go back to them and say the vehicle in the images provided isn't mine and see what they say.
Don't think this is going to be the 'magic bullet' you're hoping it might be.

As I commented above...they haven't provided "incorrect evidence"Thanks all, I will go back to them and say the vehicle in the images provided isn't mine and see what they say.
Your car is clearly identified in Lane 4 of the M1 doing 81mph. The "vision lines" from the camera (and the circle) clearly identify the "offending vehicle". Anything else is irrelevant, You just have to provide the name of the driver and then leave it up to the police to deal with the named person as they see fit.
Also...take great heed of anything AGTLAW says, he knows what he's talking about !

But the vehicle is yours. Thanks all, I will go back to them and say the vehicle in the images provided isn't mine and see what they say.
The vehicle in one of the images isn't yours.
Seems like a bit of a waste of time, but fill your boots.
You may gather some more help if you actually confirmed on here whether you were speeding or not - were you doing 81mph? If not, fight the hell out of it.

They are not obliged to provide any 'evidence' at this stage - the s.172 request which was annexed to the NIP is simply asking who was driving a particular vehicle at a particular time and place.
This ^^^^^ Been covered many times. They don't have to send you any pictures at all at this stage, some automated system has done it incorrectly but legally that matters not.
OP You have been caught red-handed, with photographic evidence, of you driving in a lane marked with a red X, driving in lane 4 whilst not overtaking anything and speeding at 81mph in a 70.
I don't understand why you want to come on a motoring forum and make yourself look an even bigger dick than you've already been.
Do the course or pay the fine and move on, it's not the end of the world.
If you don't believe me and still want to waste your time clutching at straws in some mistaken believe you'll get off on a technicality, then read AGTs reply earlier. If he doesn't think you've got a hope in hells chance of getting out of it, then I can assure you - you haven't.
