Someone claiming against my insurance

Completely baffled as to how i have got this email within the last half an hour from my insurer claiming that 3 days ago my vehicle was involved in an accident and the other party is claiming i am at fault, it is specific in that this incident was 3 days ago but mentions no other details of what this accident was?
For reference my car never left the driveway this particular day as my daughter was off school ill and the car itself has no damage marks absolutely anywhere, the claim mentions nothing in detail and at this time of night there is nobody i can contact, has anyone else ever had this sort of thing placed against them because I'm sat here now in anger.

Yep, had this myself 6m ago. Very little detail given - a date and 3rd party registration but no time, location etc.
Called them and followed up with showed screenshots/video from my ring camera showing the car hadn't moved, me leaving for work at 6am and getting home at gone 8pm and a walk around video showing no damage.
They then sent an inspector around who confirmed no damage to our car. 2 weeks after this I got a PCN for a bus lane violation in Ealing for a black Kia Nero (not our blue BMW X5) so sent that too.
They then deleted any defence to the claim and removed it from my history. Annoying thing is I had to declare something as my insurance fell due in the interim!

Call them directly from the phone number on their website, or use their app / website. Don't click any links from the email or use any phone numbers provided in the email.
If it turns out to be genuine be very clear with them over the phone you and your car were not involved,
No sarcasm, no speculation, eg don't say well unless someone stole it, crashed it, repaired it and put it back on the drive.
Just be clear the car was not driven, no one was involved.

I've logged on to my insurance account and the claim is showing on there but just saying to contact them for further details regarding this, again i specifically remember this day due to my daughter being ill and the car not shifting at all that day, and the last couple of days after this claim i did use the car but there was nothing of any note where i was involved with any other vehicle, I've even been out and double checked the car within the last half hour with a torch to see if there's any damage and there's nothing other than a mark from months ago that come from a car wash pressure washer.If it turns out to be genuine be very clear with them over the phone you and your car were not involved,

Also odd that around the time of this "claim" I was recieving phone calls from a Rochdale number that i didn't answer but having dialed it back and searched for what this number was it's showing as a life insurance company, no idea whether that's any relevance to my post or just coincidence?
So.... A little update on this now that I've had the opportunity to speak to my insurer, I won't go into too many details but the claim of this 3rd party is that i allegedly changed lane with no indication, side swiped their car and drove off, and the best bit about it when i asked was that this was in a town that's nowhere near me on a day when my car never shifted from the house, no time given either which is pointing all towards my registration being cloned.
Insurer wants photos from all angles of the car including interior and vin (there is no damage at all) I was advised that it would be best to contact the police so at the very least it's documented however now i have been told that a marker has now being placed on my registration and that it will be indefinite that it will stay on there, so to expect frequent stops by the police, pissed off is an understatement.

I could be barking up the wrong tree completely but this town in question i have never been to ever, and I'm not one for posting pictures of any cars I've ever had online so I'm baffled as to how anyone as managed to clone it if indeed that is the case and it's not something else, all i know is that it was 100% not me involved, looks like changing the registration is my only way around it, whether i do that now or when this claim has been thrown out completely i don't know?

Surely anyone can just make up a reg number and check it's valid on Insurance check and hey presto - doesn't have to be a car match but doesn't seem like rocket science to come up with a registration. Hoofy said:

My daughter got a penalty notice from Runcorn Bridge - and she doesn’t live far from it and has used it. But you could see from the picture that the reg was slightly different, but easy, but annoying, to see how the system could have made the mistake.I had a car randomly registered at my address - when I started getting PCNs I got loads of them, not an odd one.

James, do you have a tracker fitted to the car? If so it should/might log all your journeys, might be handy to prove your cars location on the day of the claimed incident.
I don't have a tracker fitted but what i do have is a timeline history on Google maps that shows perfectly where i was and at what given time, which is at work and at home.Need to check with your insurer if the alleged incident will be put on the CUE register as this will stay on your record for 5 years and may have an effect on renewal premiums. Also it is down to the tp to confirm it was your car involved not make up some random reg so ask the tp for make model colour etc
