Last Thursday I picked up a 2020 Suzuki Swift with 32,000 miles on the clock and four stamps in the service history from a Toyota dealer.

The car did come with an RAC Platinum warranty, but I have little faith in third party aftermarket warranties

When I got home tonight and parked the car I swear I could hear a mild engine knock

I tried to record it but this phone loves to filter out background noise

I did have the car booked in for the oil change tomorrow morning because I never trust the previous persons oil changes, but at the moment I am probably going to cancel this.

Advice please

Yup, don't get anyone else doing an oil change at this point.

Get it booked in with the supplying dealer so they can address your concerns.

Er, take it to the place that was going to do the oil change and see if there actually is an engine knock?

Until you know that, you can’t really do anything.

Is there enough oil in the engine, did you check the level?

I checked yesterday before I headed home from work and the oil is absolutely spot on maximum level

Don't take it to any 3rd party. Take it only to the supplying dealer unless they instruct you to do otherwise.

Why wouldn’t you call the dealer asap to express concern?

Was it present on the test drive?

I'll be calling them tomorrow at 9am when they open.

The knock was not when I test drove the car

When I got home tonight, I went to set up the radio on the car, and then I heard it, tried to record it but the phone didn't get it clearly.

Think I'll install a voice recorder app and try get not filtered audio.

Yeah I would get it looked at as we had a new 2019 model in the family up until a couple of months ago and took it to around 55k miles (I think they are the same?) and that ran as sweet as a nut, and It had also missed a couple of services

I don’t seem to recall these having engine issues though but as we had no problems, never looked for any.

Sorry I would be rejecting it and not wanting the dealer to palm me off onto a aftermarket warranty.

I had a gearbox leak on a Citroën from a Citroën main dealer and they repeatedly tried palming me off on their Citroën approved used warranty (third party company).

If it has an engine knock it's possibly been run low on oil at somepoint or a myriad of other issues - a worn engine will never be right without a lot of work and dealer visits where you use your annual leave from work to drop and pick up

Just reject.

That is the crucial bit. Maybe get that confirmed before jumping to rejection.

Could the suspected engine knock be a loose trim panel in the engine bay eg top cover?

With all respect to the OP, an engine knock could be actually one of many things. The sensible thing is to get it back to the supplying dealer.

If the OP has low faith in them, then get another specialist to look, but do nothing invasive for the obvious reasons.

Id stop panicking.

The noise could be anything .

I’d drive it for a bit and not worry about a noise you might have heard but can’t record

This forum has a no naming and shaming policy. My posts in the past have been deleted about the warranty your car has. I had the exact same warranty package and long story short I ended up £6k out of pocket- I ended up picking up the cost of an engine rebuild. The warranty has the "RAC" branding but is nothing to do with the RAC - it's underwritten by another company.

So, from my past experience - I cannot stress enough, do not let the supplying dealer palm you off on to the warranty company. The warranty company will lead you on a goose chase and will do everything they can to get of paying if a problem is found.

A warranty is for issues that are not present at the time of purchase, not something present at the time of purchase, in the OPs case all they should do is go back to the supplying dealer it is nothing to do with the warranty.
