Carrera S arrives in next 24 hours

Well I've taken the plunge and gone back to Porkers after the Gallardo , one drive of a 997S and I could feel my wallet twitching - what a car.
Arrives either this afternoon or tomorrow morning (my b'day) and it's in Artic Silver with black - sports seats, Nav, Tel, crested sport design alloys (liked them more than the new carrera design) etx but the best thing is the sports exhaust it has fitted...can't wait as the standard car sounded great. Car is new and I'll post some pics if anyones interested.

Roshambo,
Nothing wrong with the Gallardo but I didn't feel it did anything better than the 997s in truth - I also felt that my skills (not the car) meant that I could have more fun, more often in the Porker than the Lambo. The Gallardo was 100% reliable (except for the ECU which needed re-mapping) so no issues with that side of the car. I just thought that with the driving I do, the 997 will be the better car 90% of the time.
I loved the attention of owning the Lambo don't get me wrong but I think that with the Cayenne S and the 997S they suit me better than the Lambo - my fault / circumstances not the car.
Looking forward to hearing this sports exhaust now...it's switchable so I won't upset the neighbours too much...Jim

This is a really interesting post for me, as I intend to go to a Gallardo eventually from my 997S.
I anticipated a massive improvement in performance and handling, as well as the whole experience being that bit more special.
I'm really confused now.
Did you take a big hit financially with the Lamborgini?

Simon - The Gallardo might stack up differently for you mate - I'm not the most skillful behind the wheel (at least I'm honest!) and I always felt that the Lambos limits were higher than mine - with the 997 I felt more at home - maybe down to the lack of width compared to the Lambo BUT I would def not put you off having one - for me I suppose it was a dream that needed fulfilling and now it's done.
Yes - I got a good spanking on the car but would you expect anything less?!!!

Try the Gallardo. Ben (nastywej) took me out in his E-gear car at VMAX and it is barsteward quick and had less bodyroll than my 996tt. Yet another car I passengered in and walked away from thinking a few journalists have been talking out of their ar$e.

As the owner of a 997S and a Murcie (and having driven quite a few Gallardo's over extended periods) - I can assure you that the Gallardo is substantially quicker than the 997S in the right circumstances .
However 90% of the time you can have just as much fun, and with a lot less commitment, in the 997. I think Jim's point is that for him, in HIS circumstances the 997 will do everything he wants it to do - and does'nt require that last level of 10/10ths input to enjoy.
Don't get me wrong - I'd personally have the Gallardo - BUT the 997S will be an easier and more practical ownership proposition, and just as fast in most driving environments - albeit without the sense of occasion and "presence" that the Gallardo undoubtedly posseses !
In an ideal world you'd have one of each!!

Thanks guys. Daz is it quicker than your TT?
I'd say it is about the same as my turbo (X50 450bhp). I think Ben was running about 3mph less than me at VMAX but upto 150 there is nothing in it. Have a drive of one and see what you think. Don't write the idea off due to what other people write.

I've had a go in an X50 and it felt Millenium Falcon quick. That'll do. Thanks for the advice mate.
