I've applied for an eTA to visit Canada. It didn't come through straight away but ESTA for the USA always takes a couple of days for (obviously have the same name as some bad guy) so I wasn't particularly bothered.

Then I got an email saying I needed to provide more information, but not saying what information. Apparently I had to create an account on a Canadian government website to find out.

I did all that, and when I check my application it just says 'IF we need more information we'll contact you'. There is a contact form for asking for help but you have to specify what kind of application you're making and eTA isn't on the drop down list. I tried 'Status change' or some such but then it asked for reference numbers ETC I didn't have.

Do I just have to wait a couple more days for the website to update my details with what they actually want?

What worries me is that if I don't provide whatever they want my eTA will get rejected and that could cause problems if I want to go to Canada in the future.

An ESTA never takes more than an hour unless someone is manually checking your details in my experience so assuming eTA is drawing from a similar database it could just be an unfortunate same/similar detail situation? My last eTA was approved extremely quickly. The Canadians whilst quite fussy are also quite efficient, worth an email/call?
