NYC to Nashville road trip recommendations please.

Hi All,
Looks like we will be doing a USA road trip in 2025. We have 3 fixed points that we have to visit.
NYC, Akron and Nashville. We can start in either NYC or Nashville.
I was thinking NYC, Boston, Akron, Chicago and then Nashville. Planned trip duration would be 14 to 17 days.

Any recommendations on routes, places to visit (or avoid)?
We have friends in Akron and NYC so they will be sorted, for everywhere else, your guidance would be seriously appreciated.
