Time to junk the Hotpoint crap we've struggled with for a year. Looking at Samsung Series 5, possibly Neff (had good one pre-hotpoint that went on for 15ish years).

Main criterion are it actually gets to and holds the temp you set and the controls/display work when installed under counter, ie. you dont have to be at eye level with the display to read it. Simple quick controls and a decent grill helps and possibly steam but if I was going that route I'd probably go mad and get a fully plumbed steam oven.

Preferably a stainless finish. Looking around 1K mark if it does what I need but if less then great. No fussed about sous vide etc as all thats covered already.

Any recommendations?

We purchased SMEG on the basis of it being a premium product. Not so - absolute rubbish with problems on both the hob and oven shortly after fitting. Worse still spares for a current range we’re on back order.

Never again.

We have Neff ovens that would meet your requirements. One has a steam function we don't use, all have grills. One is a microwave as well as an oven, which is a nice feature, with a plate warmer built underneath that we use absolutely loads.

The slide and hide doors are great and the pyrolitic cleaning function is absolutely amazing.

We don't have a Neff but those fold and slide doors look amazing. Bosch here but can confirm a proper pyrolytic function is truly amazing.

On ours daughter did a crispy duck one weekend which sprayed fat all over. yikes

One session with pyrolytic at max setting and it was a quick wipe down with a damp cloth, back to sparkling.

Have a Samsung Infinite Dual Cook oven and like it, but controls can be simple once you get used to it.

Only issue I have with it is if you set an alarm when cooking, if you leave the alarm 'page' it sort of stops the alarm and doesn't restart until you visit the 'page' again.

Can be picked up for half price and sometimes Samsung have an offer with mindful chef vouchers. Think I ended up paying 300 in the end or 600 (and 300 quids worth of free food)

No issues with our 3 year old Neff.

It's a standalone double with a matching microwave above though. Not under counter.

We have AEG.
We have a double undercounter oven.
The top oven is big enough that we fitted a 5kg turkey in it yesterday.
Or 3 racks on a normal day
Bottom oven has enough space for 2 racks.
Both ovens have a grill
Both are pyrolitic

We have those slide and hide ovens too. 2x for years in our second home, one very recently installed at home (replaced a Miele that supplements the AGA).

Quick to get up to temperature (which bodes well for temp recovery speed, although I haven’t actually measured it)
Digital touchscreen is easy to use (and good visibility from any angle)
There are a whole host of programmes but you don’t need to wade through them if all you want to do is get on and cook.

There is an app, but haven’t bothered setting it up…

Big Samsung fan here.

Ours has a split door, two zone, steam and an air frier function along side all the usual functions.
It also connects so you can operate it from your phone.

The last time I tried a pyrolytic cleaning cycle the fumes that came out were so bad that I had to turn it off, open all the doors and go outside until it cleared!

That's what happens when you don't clean it often.

Anyway, our Miele has been brilliant over the years and well worth the extra.

Same here. We moved into a house that has a Miele oven. The cleaning function is superb but we do leave the window and door open. It does have loads of functions (steam etc) but just use as a fan oven.

Bosch, Neff and Siemans are the same, you are really just paying for the brand between them.

I have an old Neff, bought second hand 10 years ago and it's great. Doesn't have the fancy functions or the sliding door, but reliable and can get parts when needed.

We currently have Neff - one sliding door with steam and one small combined oven and microwave. Both seem pretty effective and easy to use, however my wife, who is a keen cake baker, says the big oven does not maintain an even temperature as well as the Gorenje ones we had in our last house. We tried to buy similar this time but there were some supply issues when we were buying in 2021.

Any chance of a picture - might be what we need to consider when we replace the kitchen (can't really change the layout)

I've always been a fan of the German brands so in our last kitchen refit 7yrs ago we went with Bosch for everything.

The dishwasher has already died and the fan oven is piss poor at distributing heat evenly. I wouldn't buy Bosch again, sadly.

I think that a lot of German brands which were once renowned for quality have let the bean counters rule too much and are skimping on costs, both in automotive and consumer goods, with a subsequent decline in quality.

I have that microwave with warming underneath… probably.

Microwave isn’t great, on/off at 900w and no spin? Just burns stuff unless you open and turn stuff all the time.

Then the grill is a pita, would be better just bring flat.

And the plastic tabs that hold grill snap. And are impossible to remove once snapped, to replace at £6 each iirc!

Warming drawer is great though.

Slide and hide, meh, I think I’d skip it next time.

I often find the opened door useful to prop stuff on in microwave.

Oven it’d be ok if the rails pulled out to allow stable and good access… I think maybe some top models offer that feature?

We have two Neff N90s, one steam and one standard. Can fault them. The bottom shelf is on a ball bearing pull put that you can entrust to holding something reasonably heavy.

We have a 5 burner gas hob above the oven too.
