Any ideas on an Alarm or kill switch, ive bought a scissor lift and i want to ensure i dont fire the car into the roof.

I wondered if a parking sensor kit would work or if anyone had any other bright ideas?

Depending on the design of the lift itself, perhaps you could put a limit switch on the mechanism. You may even find that feature has been designed into it. This would rely on knowing the height of the vehicle.

I have a few cars hence wanting a sensor rather than capping the lift off.

Might just strap a ballon to the roof😄

Someone I know (proper bodger and tight as anything) had a big emergency stop button with a sponge taped to it on the roof of his shed.
I asked why it was there and he showed me. It stopped the lift when his old defender hit it.

Simple, cheap and effective. The other option is a doorbell. An old fashioned one with a pokey-out button, glue something larger to the button?

A big plastic hockey puck sized thing, my kids have a plastic hickey okay set which the ‘puck’ would work.

If you want to do it properly I would be looking for already made optical ‘break beam’ sensor based alarm like these: https://www.easylinkuk.co.uk/product-photoelectric...

This assumes you could permanently mount the sensor/receiver at a safe distance from the roof, so when any vehicle on the lift breaks the beam the alarm with sound.

Various limit switches are available that will do what you suggest in different ways. Something like the below.
