Car thefts

Unbeknown to us the Neighbours posted on that lovely social/unsocial media platform about someone trying doors on cars before Christmas.

Turned up in our close at 620am in a BMW (obviously stolen) and tried mostly every houses car. Apparently rifled through two on a drive with the boots open and everything.

I get why these feral scum steal but why go through cars? We'd never now days leave anything nicking in a car like the old days of a radio, sat nav etc and it just seems a bit strange to think you'd get anything worthwhile.

We get this where we live, scumbags from outside the area come calling a few nights a week. They’ll try car doors and house doors on the off chance someone hasn’t locked up.
A few years back we had an iPod and a half bag of skittles stolen
If they find 10 cars that haven’t been locked in our village it’s quite a productive nights work.

Because lots of people still leave them unlocked. Usually because distracted or absent minded - Mrs H did it a few months ago then looked out of an upstairs window and realised her wingmirrors weren't folded. She'd picked the kids up, they'd kicked off in the car and she'd had the devil's own job getting them in the house. She hasn't again since.

...but agreed - beyond sunglasses or an old iPod / USB stick and maybe a few quid in parking change, what are you going to get out of a car nowadays?

A colleague who lives in a not particualrly salubrious SE town had his wallet taken from his car on the drive. Apparently he always leaves it in the car and was baffled by why he should stop doing that.

My wife keeps £20 in the glove box of her car and often leaves the car unlocked at home.
