I too love a well engineered rat rod that looks like its unsound but is actually a performance monster.

That's what 8yr old cars looked like back then; end of life heaps. Now an 8yr old car is just a car, even if uncared for it probably looks fine and can do another 4-6 years before the shredder beckons through spares not being available or economically viable and it can have a 2nd life as a fridge.

It was pulled out of a barn after being dry stored for 40 years. For once, "Barn find" seems apt.

Absolutely. My father bought a new Mini de-luxe in 1965. Within 5 years it had a Gold Seal recon engine and shortly after a new rear subframe. Barely made it to ten years. This from family motoring and care.

Suggest you start looking at elderly BMW's, you know, the one's built with the indicator switch close to the steery wheel, as apposed to being in the boot!

Ha..reminds me of my dad's old Mk1 Escort Van
After 4yrs the front lower panel was rotted to pieces.
Door bottoms bubbling amongst other things !!!
