Buying a used private Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio?
Discussion
Have a read of the big thread that’s still on page 1? There don’t seem to be that many major issues other than hopeless dealers. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Looks like we're in the same boat! Only thing that's a bit off putting is the vast majority on auto trader in my budget have had 4/5 owners. Not sure if it's just people scratching an itch or problematic cars
I think a lot of performance car owners tick the box after a year? It's common in the Porsche 911 world, Keep for a year and sell it.
Heard the earlier Alfa Quad's are more exciting to drive?
Due to thinner glass and no Particulate filter in the exhaust system?

I bought one like that in october, cheap manual 2016 without warranties, no worries if you know what a spanner is and/or have a good indie nearby for large jobs. Did a lot of investigating, Carvertical, spoke to earlier dealers etc. Seems the big thing with early ones are the same as others, bad battery and/or relays & software, which by now all are updated at services.
Spec wise its a matter of taste! I was unsure of the Sparco seats in my car but they proved comfortable actually, and seems to get a few cm's extra rear legroom (not that its needed).
Some bits seem to wear on all cars, driver door seal (easy fix, new is 40p) and info screen delaminates (fiddly but fixable), 1st gen bootlid stops (swap them, 30p) etc.
Early cars have louder exhausts, thinner glass, slight different steering geometry etc yes! They tug a bit more in U-turns.
Generally a bit more non-compromised.

Many prefer the steering in 2016-2019 model year cars before they removed the anti-Ackerman steering geometry, added variable assistance in different modes and introduced lane assist. They also revised the front suspension geometry in MY2020. The most significant changes making the car more refined came in MY2020 and beyond. Personally, the revised steering ruined the car for me and I had to find a MY2019.
I have had a go at selling my MY2019 QV privately after 3 1/4 years ownership simply because I no longer need 4 doors and 5 seats in a third car and want to go back to a purer 2 seat sportscar. I am the third owner. The car was a somewhat pointless dealer demonstrator in January 2020 (with Covid following so shortly after), the second owner bought the demonstrator every year for several years from this dealer, putting 35,000 miles on the car in 1 year! Then I bought it from the same dealer in September 2021.
I have now withdrawn the advert and will re-advertise once the clocks go forward as I don't need to sell and don't think anyone is actually serious about buying right now. When I re-advertise, the car will also come with 2 years of approved Alfa warranty, hopefully giving people enough peace of mind to make a private purchase.
