Good afternoon,

I am after a ‘new’ convertible.

We have had a number before including Z4s, E46 330ci, TVR, TR6 etc.

Initially started looking at the E89 but then shifted to SLK 350 and then to SL 350.

This one interests me:

We think 2 seats but would possibly go back to 4 to take the kids occasionally. Thinking hard roof so I can leave it outside if needed (all the others have lived in the garage) and I want something that works so a 16 year old SL might be silly!

However, they look great, are supposedly built well and will be comfy and refined.

Am I being stupid or is this a good model?

If stupid, what else?

Thanks.

The thing with all 350's is that up until the end of 2008 beginning of 2009 they could suffer balancer shaft issues, going for a 59 plate onwards should see you clear that potential hurdle:

Good point.

I thought the 2008 onwards SLs did not suffer but it seems not.

I just love the interior colour!

It really is I do love a contrast interior 3008 was when they started to adress it but I know of 58/09's that have gone so I always advise 59 onwards.

I will say the number of engines that suffered this was small but it is a potential issue.

I’m wondering if the facelift (circa 2012) SLK 350 is a more sensible bet?
