Actually only two!

1 Is the standard diff an LSD? If not do some have one fitted, is there an upgrade available?

2 Is the steering turns ratio (turns of wheel from lock to lock) the same on the power assisted rack as on the manual rack?

Would be most grateful if somebody could answer these. Just sold my S3 and need a new TVR fix and think the Chimp may fit the bill!

Blimey! The answer to those two questions will decide whether a Chimaera is the right car!

I believe diff is LSD, but there was also a factory hydratrack option methinks.

Rack is different, 2.5 or 2.2 turns depending if ps is fitted

The standard diif is an LSD, hydratrak not available.
PAS rack is 2.2 turns lock to lock, non PAS is 2.4 - much better a speed.

I think you're wrong about the Hydratrack Bomber. I reckon it was an option. (but I wouldn't bet my pants on it)

I'm intrigued how steering lock options have an input to a buying decision! Come on, do tell!

(Presumably if pas lock = non pas lock you wouldn't buy one! )

My old 400 had PAS and I found it twitchy at 100mph+, i.e a good fart and you crossed two lanes!
The new non-pas gives much better feedback as to road surface etc, and now I can still go for a Vindaloo on a Saturday night before my Sunday drive and yet still steer with one hand!

...presumably there's a popadom in t'other!

I had one of the last 500s without power steering. In fact, they'd started building them with PAS as standard, and I badgered Peter Wheeler at the motorshow to make mine without, and knock the £900 off that they'd added to the price!

Sorry been watching the telly! These are just a couple of questions that I could not find answers to, they are not deciding whether or not to buy the car. I got the same response when I posted about whether the S used the type 9 gearbox or not! Maybe I am a bit abstract!

The fact is though that in order to get a good power slide you need an LSD and a quicker rack makes it easy to catch the slide! Now you get me?

..Steve Heath says (about the Hydratrack option) "It makes getting the car into a four wheel drift a little tricky"

...so I guess you'd better make sure it only has the standard LSD!

And I thought the S forum was a lively place. I look forward to joining the fold! Now I just need to find a car!

My Bible says:

"1. In the beginning was the differential, and the differential was GKN-Salisbury until mid 1996.
2. At this time Peter made the BTR differential available unto the masses, and it was good.
3. Near the end of his reign Peter begat the Hydratrack which was given to the Cerbera and later models as a birth-right, but the lowly Chimeara and Griffith had to acquire it through the wallet of their master.
4. The Hydratrack came from darkest hydraulic action and therefore differed from the previous models which thrived on friction.
5. The newcomer was liked by many - especially the young and inexperienced, but was seen by the elders to hold hidden cunning and be diffult to predict."

I think that you must have had something wrong with your suspension/steering/ride height/twitch to have that bad a problem - my PAS car feels very secure at those speeds.
But then we don't want to open up the old PAS/non PAS debate do we?
