Looking to cut my monthly expenditure with Sky so TV Essentials sounds great:

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-essentials

Anyone done similar and any issues / anything to look out for? £15pm sound far more appealing than the £92 my sky package is about to increase to, especially when £5 is covering Netflix Standard. I thought about trying Sky Stream but as I do like the Sky Q experience so prefer to keep the box for now. I currently have Sky Sports and am aware that's not possible to add that Essentials. But worse case and I really need it I can get it on a monthly basis on Sky Now as and when.

The fact that the catch up content is only SD would put me right off.

Be better off with a stand alone TV recorder.

The way they phrase that is strange as almost sounds like its only Channel 4 & 5 where its SD. Not sure I ever watch anything on the latter anyway and worst case can just use the My5 app on my chromecast.

There is only 1 Freesat recorder available nowadays it seems (Arris) and its £229 and fairly clunky & problematic looking at reviews. I have no aerial installed hence requirement to stick with Satellite for now.

I hope its easier than Virgin.
I tried downgrading my mums package at renewal time.
Dad developed Dementia, went into a home, and therefore didn't need full sports.

Of course you can Virgin said.
But you'll pay the same as the full package you're on currently, as it's all down to offers etc.

Shysters.

I sectioned her to sky.

Currys appear to list 10 Freesat or Freeview recorders, some with inbuilt dvd/bluray players.

Their filtering is wrong. If you filter by brand = freesat then there are 4 which are different storage variations of the same box (Stream Only / 500G / 1Tb / 2Tb).

Anyway it seems I have confused myself (or should I say Sky confused things calling different packages on different platforms the same thing). TV Essentials on Sky Q is not the same as Sky Essentials on Sky Stream (the latter is the one with Sky Atlantic, Netflix etc).
