Long overdue project kicking off shortly, that is renovating the much unloved utility room and the final room in this 1960s house to do.

As pictured below the old chimney / vent stack remains. Approx 5 years ago the old floor standing boiler sat under here and vented out via the top. This was subsequently removed when we replaced the boiler, simply capped at the bottom and left open at the top. It runs through the house and there is a stack on the roof.

Can I take this back to ceiling level without any drama?

That seems to quite large boxing for a 4" flue

I'd start small rather than going in gung ho, try getting in for a look from underneath

Will still need to deal with the flue in some way through

I'd be keeping an eye out for asbestos in a 1960s house.
