We would like to convert two sets of window curtains into automatic opening and closing. The curtains are the eyelet style hanging on a brass rail (tube) with a central opening ie two curtains per window. I want to keep the existing curtains and rails etc and just add the auto mechanism. A quick google shows a variety of units that fit onto the round tube rail and then motor along with a rubber wheel for grip to push the curtains closed or open.
Has anyone tried/used/have these type of units and how did they work efficiency wise ? Do they do the job ?
Any recommendations welcome. Thanks
Brian.

Yes, we have the SwitchBot Curtain 3. Does the job. Tried The Curtain 2 previously but it wasn't strong enough for floor to ceiling wide curtains. Got the 3 when they came out and they work.

Set it up on a timer schedule and jobs a good un.

I've had 3 pairs of Switchbot 3 for about 15 months. They work fine, but one unit failed. Replaced under warranty by Switchbot, just had to email them a video clip of it whirring away with no drive to the roller.

Be aware that you also need to buy a Switchbot Hub to control them.

They integrate well with Alexa, for voice control and routines, or you can set schedules with the app.

The curtains get opened and closed once a day, and the batteries last at least 6 months.

sorry for the hijack but never thought about it until I read this post.
can you get anything for vertical blinds ? i've two bay windows, split into 3rds and would love the ability to close all 3 in both windows at the same time on demand

Switchbot Blind will work to "swivel" vertical blinds if they are the type that uses a "wand", but it can't slide them

No you don't.

You download the app set schedules and operate them from that.

We don't use Alexa or any of that nonsense so there is no need for a hub.

Yes, you are correct - the hub adds "smart home integration".

How is the scheduling handled without a Switchbot Hub though?
I thought the Curtain 3 used bluetooth to pair with the app - no onboard wifi. The Hub acts as a wifi interface.

To control the curtains without a Hub, presumably your phone has to be within Bluetooth range?

I originally bought 2 sets of Curtain 3, and a Hub, because I wanted voice control.
When I added another set in the main bedroom, I had to get another Hub - bluetooth range wasn't good enough to pair with the first Hub.
At least that's what seemed to be going on. It was over a year ago.

Download the app, you have manual control and can set schedules. Once the schedules are set they are in the unit themselves, same as the open and closed positions. smile

We use it for the schedule, same as timers on lights so it looks like the house is occupied when it's not. smile
