I’m advised this is the nuts! Couldn’t find it locally so ordered online and now have a jar… their madras paste is one of my go-to’s if I’m not making my own…any of you guys used the Kashmiri paste?
TIA Richard..

If in doubt, make your own. Easy, healthier and tastes far, far better!

I found a jar of Pataks balti sauce in my mum's cupboard over Christmas and used it with some leftovers. It was very coarse and not balanced at all.

Making your own is not hard.

I like the Patak’s tikka sauce. Always have some in the fridge, for livening up a quick chicken breast to put into a wrap.

Yep often make my own… make flatbreads, bhajis, Bombay potato, even made lime pickle a few years ago (the three month version) sometimes though a good paste is very convenient…

Never been a fan of Pataks (before I started using recipes when not lazy). The one I miss is Nazir's paste. Not sure if they are even around any more (they were Manchester based and started in the 1960s). I remember they stopped making the pastes and started sauces instead which were no where near as good.

I always find the spices in Pataks taste 'raw'.

Previns is my go to, their sauces make a really authentic curry with very little work:

Agreed - I always think they taste too "sharp", almost metallic or too vinegary in some way, as someone said previously, not very well balanced at all.

I'm not a fan of ready-made pastes. To me they taste of stale oil.

I always viewed Patak sauces as the poor / poverty spec option. Although it's a bit more expensive, the Lloyd Grossman ones for me are far better... Or just make your own.
