Just received this:

"Since you renewed your car insurance on, , we’ve discovered an error. Unfortunately, you were charged a higher price than you should have been. We’re really sorry for any inconvenience and here’s what we’re doing to put things right as quickly as possible.

This refund will be sent to the card we have on file within 5 working days."

No amounts quoted. It wasn't a renewal but a new policy...

I'll just accept that as good news then, I guess. Wonder how much I will get.

I think we will quickly find that this is an error email, and there is no refund due.

I've immediately tried to log into hastings website and app, both not working.

I've got an email from them saying they're refunding me £26, but interestingly I do actually have a policy with them, and it did renew last September as they say. I haven't had the money yet though.

Minus the £25 admin fee for processing the refund, congrats on your payout laugh

Maybe it will be followed up with "We have been unable to process the refund as your card details have expired. Please enter your card details here"

"You may have received an email telling you that we are part refunding you for your renewal. Unfortunately, this was sent to you by mistake – so please disregard it. "

Read OP, remembered I moved the Boxster to Hastings in May, scrolled down the thread . . . sure enough both emails are in my Hotmail.

It's fair enough, I don't like giving my clients refunds either.;-p

I've had the "please disregard" email now too... so I can't sue them for breach of promise or whatever? :-)

That genuinely happened to me when I cancelled my last insurance with several months left.

I phoned up a few weeks later saying my account had not been credited and was told the admin fee (more than £25) had wiped it out.... frown
