Hi guys and gals,

I have a pretty strong feeling that my rear suspension is shot.

My offside rear wheel rubs on my arch (theres a bit of a hole in the fibreglass now) when cornering and over bumps at speed.

What is the likely costs involved in a replacement rear springs/shocks bearing in mind I dont want it to be a multi-million pound race car....

Kempy, in June I had a pair of replacement Bilstein dampers (original equipment) fitted on the back of mine, by a TVR dealer. At the price though (it was done along with a load of other stuff), I think I should have done it myself:

Bilstein Mk IV £158 each
Pair of bushes £19.26 (two sets required)
Fitting £90

Total £444.52 (£522.31 inc. VAT).

To be fair to them, they did offer a set of Nitrons all round, with springs, fitted, for £900.

Thanks for the info Andy. I was thinking around the 4 - 500 quid mark. I would like to give it a go myself but have nowhere to do it and keep it off the road. as its parked on the damn road for a bit.

If you just want rears, you can get a pair of fully adjustable shocks and springs for about £255 inc VAT and the likes of David Batty, Austec, The V8 centre, Thames Valley Racing, TVR Fix or Topcats would fit for a reasonable price and they are all within reach of you.

Unless you already phoned Austec, cos they just ordered a rear pair off me

Got my Avos a few months ago, complete with springs. IIRC the bill was around the £250 mark, although that could have been + VAT....

Fitting isn't difficult, you need the following tools:

Trolley jack
Wooden blocks (propping car up)
Selection of spanners
Mallet
Grease
C-spanner (or big big grips for adjusting ride height)
Tape measure (for measuring ride height)

Job takes about 2 hours. Not that difficult tbh.

I'm assuming that it would be best to do all corners? Im not 100% sure on the history of the suspension so... piece of mind and all that.

I'd love to give it a go. Fancy myself as a bit of a wannabe diy'er mechanic but dont fancy trying to get it done parked on the side of the road.
