Been a few years since I had to do one, but I do remember if I was ever late with it they'd hassle me with reminders, phone calls, etc, until I submitted it. It wasn't particularly late, maybe 2 or 3 weeks at most, so no idea if or how they'd escalate it if you just ignored them.
