BMW or GOLF insurance at 20?
Discussion
Hi all.
I'm planning on purchasing either a GOLF R or a BMW 135I, however I'm finding it a pain getting an insurance quote. I'm turning 20 in a few days time and want to purchase a new car.
I currently have 6 points on my license from 2 years ago - CU80.
At 18 I managed on getting insured on a BMW E46 for £5000 ish a year
Now I currently own a 2011 BMW 320D E92 and pay £6,600 yearly.
As stupid as it sounds I don't mind paying upwards of £7,000 yearly for the insurance.
Would anyone have any tips or insurance brokers that would most likely insure me?

I think 'only' being 19 and having 6 points from using your mobile I don't think insurance companies want to touch you on a Golf R or 135/140 as you're seen as outside of their risk profile.
Perhaps keep your current car for another 12 months or so, until you're 21, and then go and buy something more powerful or change it for something you can have more fun with but less bhp - Suzuki Swift etc...

Yes.Be fortunate you're still allowed to drive.
Wait until you've grown up enough to follow rules.
In the meantime, buy a suitable car with cheaper running costs as punishment for breaking rules.
You have spent roughly £11600 on insurance in the past 2 years, ouch
to add another £7000 to that pile would be bonkers!
A 20 year old male with 6 points on their licence for speeding, in a Golf R is about as high risk as it gets.
Get something that can be insured for less than £3000 and stick with it for a few years. You will kick yourself years down the line if you go ahead at those prices, and then there are the maintenance costs....

Happy to pay upwards of 7k per annum..bloody hell that is wild!
Sorry I've nothing else much to add but if I was an insurance company I'd want a hell of a lot to cover you on a 300bhp hot hatch due to your age and record.
I'm unhappy paying £700 a year. A Golf R will get you some more points. Good luck.Sorry I've nothing else much to add but if I was an insurance company I'd want a hell of a lot to cover you on a 300bhp hot hatch due to your age and record.
