I got a NIP for 36 in a 30, feet from a change to a 40 zone.

The NIP says " recorded speed 36, time into red light 0"

This looks like a jumping red light offence but there aren't any traffic lights near the site.

Am I understanding this properly?

‘Speed on green’ camera.

It’s a speeding offence.

What does 'time into red light 0' mean? That he was over the speed limit for 0 seconds?

I take it to mean that it's a combined speed and red light camera and that the zero indicates there is no time lapsed between the red light and the car being detected therefore the light was amber / green. If there was a figure quoted it would give an indication by how much the red light was jumped by.

This is just my assumption, I'm sure agtlaw will clarify.

No you appear not to be understanding it properly.

It is a speeding offence.

The traffic light reference is not relevant.

Hope that helps.

No need to post that.

The question was answered in post #2.

I think the traffic light reference is relevant, as AGT explained it was a traffic light camera but the OP thinks it happened nowhere near a traffic light

No he didn't say it's a traffic light camera, it's a Speed on green camera, relatively new which can be used at traffic signals to detect both speeding and red light offences or can be used solely as a speed camera. One camera that can do 2 jobs rather than having 2 different camera types. The OP was obviously pinged at a speed only site hence the Zero time into red reference

I assume you do know that the distance to the speed limit change is of zero relevance?

The speed limit changes at the sign not before.

My son got caught on one . It's a speed camera at some traffic lights.
It can record if you passed a red light , and the time elapsed since it turned red. It also records your speed.

He got recorded for both offences simultaneously .

Purely a guess but if you'd been within the speed limit but jumped a red traffic light the same form may have been used but completed accordingly.

If you know the location of the offence, then you should be able to figure out if there's a red light camera &/or speed camera: https://www.scdb.info/en/karte/

Which is why it says "time into red light 0" - the time is 0 beause there are no lights.

Thanks for all the replies. Just for complete information:

I saw the "officer" with the speed gun as it happened, it was a handheld device pointing at me. He was standing in a side road to an empty rural dual carriageway.

The site is completely without traffic lights.

I was accelerating into a 40 zone and was zapped yards from the change, so I admit I was doing 36 in a 30.

I'm very uncomfortable accepting any admission of "red light" anything as I don't want it on my record that I have admitted to anything involving breaking a traffic light when I 100% know that isn't the case.

But on your "record" it will just have an SP30 (?) code won't it?

Yes I'm sure that's probably the case but I don't see why there should be any reference at all to a red light. If they are using some specific camera they should say that explicitly. I'm being prosecuted so I think I have a right to have it presented to me in a correct, clear way. It isn't.

But, you are not in a red light hence there being zero, it is a standard matrix on the camera which can be for multiple uses.

Just the same as a couple of motorway pics on here recently where there is a box for "Red X in lane" which is left blank.

Your NIP will just mention your speed, so your NIP is just for speed.
