How many peeps on PH have been touched by this condition.
it is lifelong and mostly invisibile..
it is very real.
and most people assume that to be autistic you have to be severely so.
which is not the case.
if you know or understand about this please post.
1 in 4 autistic kids are excluded from school and labelled as naughty when in actual fact they have special needs....
thanks jessx

Is there anywhere online where one can find out if you are Austic or have Asbergers.

My uncle in Canada is an expert in this field and lecturers at McGill.

When is it "National normal persons day"?

What on Earth do these days actually do? Lobbied for and promoted by minority interest groups and largely ignored by the vast majority. Does anything special happen that will make the general public pay attention? Do the people involved actually get pro-active, or just leave it until it's over, then quietly whisper about it to a few mates?

Sorry to sound cynical - but that's because I am - there are so many of these "days" that they have become meaningless unless you have an interest in the subject on offer. in which case, your awareness does not need raising, surely?

AQ test.

Just noticed the calculate score button doesnt work but you can add it up yourself if you can be bothered.

Its hardly a cast iron diagnosis though. Its also hard to answer these things honestly because its pretty obivous which of the answers is going to make you come out as autistic so you will get whatever result you want.

How is your son doing Jessica? I have a cousin with quite severe Aspergers and he is just leaving the school system at the moment. Its quite a difficult time for him and his parents.

I took one of those internet tests for autism once and it said I was mildly autistic 'not responsive to other people's emotional needs' or something like that

I wasn't too bothered though, in my view it's part of being a man rather than 'an episode of friends away from becoming a giant walking Vag*na' to use one of my favourite quotes from 'The Best Page in the Universe'

I am mildly (well a little more than mild I suppose) autistic but it doesn't affect my daily life that much except I have a lot of trouble with social relationships and emotions, luckily I work with computers all day with little human contact so its not as much of a burden as it might otherwise be. I didn't even realise I was autistic until I read an article on it a couple of years ago and realised I matched all the criteria/symptoms whatever. Certainly explains a lot of stuff, but there isn't much you can do about it and in some ways it can be advantageous, its mainly the full blown cases who have it the worst, stealth cases like me can move largely undetected through society

Hi Jessica,

Indirectly I'm involved with this, I'm a Fundraising Manager for a National Charity that supports (amongst other things) people with Autism.

Anything that helps raise awareness of *any* form of disability or condition is a good thing - yes some people get tired of special 'days' but on the whole I think it's a good thing.

P.S. Vodafones partnership this year with NAS is excellent and generating a lot of exposure - which is fab.

Hello and thank god for you and I then.. I am a director for a special needs charity and it appears to be the invisible disabilities that suffer the most.
people have empathy for kids with Downs syndrome and deaf and blind children.
the minute your disability becomes invisible is the minute you get the wrong label and zero tolerance from the public and the education system.

I will keep on fighting for these children it is my vocation.
mail me if you want to.
