Looking to probe the hive mind.....

I'm looking at spending 20-25k on a 'sports convertible', it will be a 2nd car so limited use in winter but enough it will survive as can't hibernate in a garage.

Needs to be 4 seats and have a fun element, not dull but and not too boat like!

I'm not really interested in M/RS cars as have done that previously. It's kind of hard not to just go out and buy a 996 or 997 to be honest. That said I'm wondering if now is the time to get a V8 while you still can, Mustang maybe? Or is it a good time to buy a Jag given the direction they are going in.......

Ideas welcome, see if I've missed anything off my list!

XKR springs to mind and seems more interesting and a better car that the 911.

I have a 997.2 convertible, a 4 seater car it is not, the Maserati is a great shout.

Grancabrio has more room in the back than an XK or a 911 cabriolet, if that’s important.

Love the idea of the Maserati, even an Aston but probably overly anxious about the maintenance bills, which is funny given I've had TVRs, lol.

Prob should clarify on 4 seater, rear 2 would be for the kids only and even then only short journeys.

Have looked at a few XKRs and really like them, while not a 911 I have had a boxster so ticked the Porsche box in some ways, though I know they are very different cars.

No love for the 5.0 Mustang?

A preference for a manual box is also limiting choice....

Merc CLK AMG 55/63. More cruiser than sports car but aren't most 4 seats convertibles better for that.

Mustang is good, you can even get a manual, which is great !

Maserati is a more special car though for me. One of the best sounding cars ever. Be sure to get a PPI before purchase though, good ones are great, a neglected one will cost you to put right.

XKR’s are great too but very tight in the back.

Build a carport and buy a Cerbera?

Fully appreciate this may not be a practical suggestion

Wanting a 3 pedal manual is very limiting in this market.

The 5.0 Jaguar XKR is definitely worth having a good look at. Even as an auto.

Rare as rocking horse poo but I bet there's a Aston Martin DB9 Manual Valonte out there.

Maserati Gran Cabrio is probably the most engaging choice though.

Alpina B3. Not a manual but definitely not an M car.

If i kick the wife's Beetle out of the garage this could work nestled in next to the motorbikes - she'd kill me though, lol. I used have an S2 so the Cerbera would be an improvement on that :-)

Actually have a few of these saved on Autotrader, it seems a cheaper option to and i k ow they're special in their own right, probably hold their value OK.

Not sure it has the 'presence' of the other cars but do I care about that or not, hmm.

I had a Bentley GTC for a while - OK, not 'sports' but fairly rapid all the same. The back seats were usable.

I've had a couple of XKR convertibles and currently have a 911 convertible - very different cars and the back seats in both are for luggage only really.

After trying a few alternatives the Mustang came out on top until i test drove a 991 Carrera and as i had previously owned a 928s and always wanted a 911 of some kind i chose the Porsche.

I still look at Mustangs and i can see myself having one as they are great value.

I'll have to take the kids and try the back seats on a few if the options......not sure i can stretch to a 991, gen 2 997 is about the limit with the budget I'm prepared to chick at this, 996 is attractive with the hardtop but my memories of the Boxster are the soft top was fine in winter.....bore score and IMS is seeding doubt on the 911.

I like the look of the Mustang a lot but it's interior is behind the others and of course that's where you spend your time.

I'll have to do some digging on the maserati as that seems a good option if I can get.over the fact it might bankrupt me :-)

Worse ways to spend a weekend, lol.

Another shout for the Maserati here. Every drive will feel special
