Any other EV owners feeling just a little self satisfied to find their cars nicely defrosted and toasty warm inside having (silently and without creating any local pollution) preconditioned themselves while you were having breakfast?

My wife was unimpressed at having to pour warm (not boiling) water over her Mini door so she could even get in.

I suspect she might take up the offer of a test drive in an EV replacement for her car now!

The KIA EV3 looks pretty good or possibly a Renault 5 EV.

(And before you ask yes, the range has taken a beating in this weather, down from 250 miles in summer to 180 at -3 degrees). But it’s still way more than I need and I still don’t have to stop at petrol stations once a week unlike my previous petrol car so the EV is still much better.)

Yes - defo, I've never been more warm in a car !

It's 22c when I get in - heated seats, heated steering wheel, heated arm rest and door panels all nice and cozy - lush smile

Swings and roundabouts really. Pros to ICE and EV.

Not so much smug but I do like seeing the likes of King Gary trying to compare block heaters to the simplicity of tapping a button on your phone in the morning.

Hence the reason for the post, EV owners all over at times, with their little green badge lol! If you love it, love it, why feel the need to tell everyone, hiding something?

I must admit it is very nice to get into my warm and defrosted EV van on a weekday morning, but I hardly find it a massive chore switching the engine on for 5 minutes on the ICE car, it warms up very quickly. And as for polluting, I've seen the MOT results, its extremely clean. I bet my smelly old dog puts out more nasty emissions biglaugh
Lets face it, our hard frosty days are hardly lengthy in these current times, have we had a solid week yet?
But yes, it is a EV positive though.

If you are driving anywhere that is likely to be cold (have you felt the supermarket freezer aisles?) then you would be wearing warm clothes anyway. With my 3 litre diesel I start and go. The inside is rarely misted up, and clears in seconds with the AC on. I am definitely feeling smug, no range worries, minimal depreciation now.

I was, right up until my Model 3’s driver door lock actuator died after trying and failing to open a completely frozen door.

I still don't want one.
I like cold mornings, they keep me sharp.
A quick prybar to open the door wink
I'm outside all day anyway so it doesn't matter
Plus my private drive is long enough that the windscreen is de-misted by the time I get to the road!

Yeah. The entire country should switch to a brand new EV at great expense so they can join that club.

Oh wait, then nobody would be feeling smug in the morning whilst having their breakfast cos there would be no ICE drivers to "look down upon" as common peasants who have to scrape ice off their windscreen.

I just take it from under the car port, it might be ice, but it's not icy.

You should make a list of the things you do like about your car and see if it overcomes your remorse. Happy if you keep the list to yourself. Or I am sure there is a dedicated line you can call for other EV owners.

If my diesel is running I’m warming the outside air up to so win win in icy weather.
Original post says range dropped 70miles, at least my diesel didn’t drop that many miles coz of a bit of cold weather.

I turn a hairdryer on in my Cerbera while having brekky.

Takes less time to do that than try to defrost with a kettle-antifreeze and the car is toasty

You don’t need to drive a washing machine to have it warm when you get there, just a little bit of forethoughtbiggrin

(Yes I am also jealous you can do this by app and not having to go outside in a dressing gown biggrin )

My ev car is great but i wish my work van was an ev, diesels are absolute crap in the cold. Take an eternity to warm up and if you get stuck in traffic you just watch the temperature gauge drop and the heaters start blowing cold air instead of any heat.

If only that’s what the common peasants actually did - mostly though they seem content to drive off squinting through a tiny letterbox slot because they’re too lazy or too dim to clear the car properly.

Might increased EV use fix that? It would be nice, but I don’t hold out much hope.

My BMW diesel has remote start so it was toasty warm when I went out to it 6am this morning. Plus as a bonus the range showed as 700 miles and it wasn't even full.

The straw clutching is palpable.

Hilarious

Enjoy your scraping, prybar and waiting for the diesel to chug into life.

The rest of the world has moved into the 21st Century.

How do you manage to wash your clothes?

When you go down to the river with a washboard it’s frozen isn’t it?
