I seem to remember that someone said that the cops in France just pocket the money. I got a receipt on the spot and the cop said there'd be an official notification sent to me at home, so he couldn't really just pocket the cash. Did anyone else ever hear anything back from them? Or am I just being nieve?

I got 2 bleeding tickets from the frog theives.
Rant over.
Dont know anything about getting a receipt in the post. I've certainly not heard anything from them. I hope I do - I wouldn't mind having an address where I could write giving someone a piece of my mind.

Just received a bill this morning for 750 Euros through the post. Nearly fell over. I hope it's just confirmation of the "event", where I did pay said sum to un Gendarme avec pas "sense d'humeur".
Anyone else get a "confirmation" letter?

Nothing so heinous. 138 Km/h in a 90Km/h zone. Dead straight, very wide road with no turn offs. Had just overtaken 2 Z4's and we actually waved at the Gendarme on the bridge with his hairdryer before we realised who he was.

What a drive up to then though!

My mate got nicked coming back from Le Mans last year, he was doing 200 kph through a village! He told the cops that he only have a few Euros on him to get back to Blighty and thats why he was leaving early. After "negotiating" with the the cops he managed to get off with a 60 euro fine! Apparently the cop told him that 60 euros is the minimum fine so I assume they pocket the rest.

So if they catch you and take your licence, meaning someone else has to drive...

do you still hold a licence in the uk and just simply claim that you 'lost' the original?

Got pulled just before the N138 turn off coming out of Rouen. €80, got a written receipt.

Not heard anything since.

How long does the ban last for and can you pay to get it removed after a period of time?

I translated one of these for another PHer last year and it is just a confirmation of where you were nicked, waht speed etc and how much the fine was. You need to pay nothing more.

You should always be issued with a "billet" when you get nicked, showing how much you were fined etc.

Got a written receipt for 'acceleration excessive' in Arnage in 2004 - 45 Euros, an interview on Le Mans radio and a massive cheer, could have been worse

Thanks Mate, it's what I thought, but Google translate and my GCSE French didn't quite get me there.
