I wonder how many wonder under the speed limit, because you know, speed kills.

We'll wake up when they have the ability to turn your money off.

Wtf are we sleep walking into? And here come the muppets with "if you haven't got anything to hide blah blah blah" When is enough enough? When we are comparable to China?

Seatbelts and mobile phones. Brilliant. Keep it going.

Interesting how many people don't wear seatbelts though.

Sounds like a resounding success to me;

"There were 533 instances of drivers not wearing a seat belt and two of children under 14 not wearing seat belts in the front passenger seat.

Drivers using mobile phones accounted for 301 offences and 13 drivers were observed not being in proper control of their vehicles."

Particularly the mobile phone users getting nicked, good job AI...

I'm surprised so many people are not wearing seatbelts.
I'd have expected way more phone use than seat belt offences.

If the cameras are catching people on phones and not wearing belts (who tf does this in 2025) then I'm all for it.

Yes, that surprised me as well. I'd have guessed far more people would be on the phone, because in my experience I see someone on the phone everytime I am in the car. Well, that or a lot of people contemplating their naval...

Perfectly understandable if they live near the sea, I'd say.

Not wearing a seat belt seems to be the latest way for young men to show their rebellious credentials.

"The AA Trust analysis shows one-third (29%) of young drivers (17-29) who die in car crashes are not belted. Staggeringly, 95% of these are male."

A lad my daughter was at school with crashed his car a few weeks ago. Four 18 year olds in it. None wearing seatbelts. Three in hospital with life-changing injuries. One still in a coma.

I find it incomprehensible. Stick it to the man by all means, but find something smarter.

we dont know how many cars the cameras examined so we have no idea of the rate of people who don't wear seatbelts.

If you’re young you probably don’t realise why you need a belt. Cars are so much safer then compared with 30 years ago.

The cameras capture footage of passing vehicles, and use AI software to detect if a driver is committing an offence, such as using their phone or not wearing a seatbelt. If the software signals a potential offence, a person then reviews the footage.

The 849 traffic offences recorded are broken down into four categories:

Seatbelt offences (driver): 533
Use of handheld mobile phones while driving: 301
Driver not in proper control: 13
Child under 14 in the front passenger seat without a seatbelt: 2

Question for you then - are people on their phones behind the wheel ok if they're also not speeding?

It's probably just easier to spot a lack of seatbelt Vs someone on the phone.

Traffic cameras continue to evolve to pick up more offences, I'm all for it.

If you're handling your phone for any reason whilst driving you are a risk to other road users and need to be caught. If you insist on not wearing a seatbelt you are a danger to yourself and need to be caught.

We are all on camera so often these days just going about our daily business we shouldn't worry about cameras being used to catch folks who are flouting road traffic rules.
