Civil claim against the police?

As much as it pains me to even consider it I am seriously considering making a civil claim against the police. Without going into the full circumstances I have already gone down the complaint route and have been totally fobbed off by someone who doesn’t appear to have any knowledge of the law so I see this as the next step.

Has anyone got any first hand experience of making a claim against the police? Can you recommend any legal firms that are good and would be able to assess my case to see if it’s worth proceeding? (Yes I know they are probably all vultures but unfortunately if I want to get listened to I’m probably going to have to engage with them)
