Rob inglebys, find me a sports car

I am hoping to buy a TVR (Chim 4ltr to be specific) in the next few months and a friend mentioned Rob Inglebys find me a sports car site as he is a specialist in TVRs

Has anyone had any experiences with Rob, either good or bad, any responses welcomed.

The first purchase before the TVR will be the 'bible', where is the best place to buy a copy of the legendary document and price?

I used rob to check out my car before I purchased my griffith, and I cant speak highly enough of him, he really does know his stuff and is extremely thorough, and also a really nice guy, I would definately use him again.

agreed, Rob found my car and very happy we are with it too. Excellent service which sounds expensive ( £600 I think ) but when you start to add up how much it's gonna cost you to travel to 4 or 5 cars all over the country, soon starts to make a lot of sense. He's good at negotiating the price down too....

Personally I would always use a specilist TVR garage (either main dealer or independent). They can get the car in the air, and give you an idea of any work that may need doing.

EDIT - I should also point out (as you're a newbie) that PH has a "no name and shame" policy, so you wont get negative feedback.

Podie, i did wonder if i would get any negative feedback but thought i'd ask on the off chance.

I wondered how much his expertise would cost, but i am willing to pay someone who knows what he is talking about so he seems like a very real possibility.

Hi, used Rob 4 1/2 years ago to find my current Cerb - this was just before he'd gone full time. I was very pleased with his approach & thoroughness, and he was exceptionally good at negotiating a very good deal on the car. I guess it must have been ok as I still have it & it's going very strongly !!

Try James Agger too...all his cars come highly recommended.

He has a reputation for being extremely knowledgable and plenty of people on Pistinheads appear to have used him...I drove a 4.0 Chimaera there recently and it was absolutely immaculate.

Paid him the money, gave him the budget and preferred colour

I think he looked at over 10 before he rang up and said "BUY IT" and he negotiated the price down for us. Could not match the colour but got a yellow one which is SO much faster than all the rest so we are glad.

Excellent service with a full car report on your new baby

Another reminder that PH has a no name and shame policy here I'm afraid - and a balancing note that you can't expect any inspection to find everything every time.

I can recommend James Agger tho' if you are looking for the 'find me a car in top condition' service.

I used Rob to find my first TVR (Chimaera), the following one (Tuscan) was a solo effort. I was pleased with the service I had from Rob, and as I've said numerous times, I believe he negotiated the price down further than I would've done - in effect this covered his fee. (If that makes sense...). It may be worth noting that I didn't get him to do the full 'finding' service, I simply paid him to do an inspection and report for me; I found the car here on PH. As someone who knows nothing about car mechanics I felt I was in good hands.

I've also heard lots of good things about James Agger, had he been trading when I bought I would've certainly had a look at his cars. (and admired his suntan )

Also used Rob to find my Tuscan. Got a very detailed and valued report which was worth the fee - and Rob was also very responsive to my needs/geography, not to mention being being a very decent gent.

Have since had lots of issues with rebuild/new clutch but Robs' inspection would not have covered these anyway.
