A Cybertruck regularly seen on UK roads, has been seized by the police. The owner registered it in Albania to avoid UK and EU rules on safety, before importing it to the UK.

The owner and driver is a permanent resident of the UK.

Police said:

"Officers from GMP Transport Unit stopped this Tesla Cybertruck in Whitefield last night (Wednesday). The driver was a permanent UK resident but the vehicle was registered and insured abroad which is prohibited in the UK. The Tesla Cybertruck is not road legal in the UK and does not hold a certificate of conformity. Whilst this may seem trivial to some, legitimate concerns exist around the safety of other road users or pedestrians if they were involved in a collision with a Cybertruck. The vehicle was subsequently seized under S165 of the Road Traffic Act and the driver reported."

Clocked this on Facebook this morning. It's not the only one I've seen pop up in the UK. One with a standard finish on it is knocking about. They look awful and don't perform well, what really is the appeal? Exclusivity I suppose. It'll be a much more exclusive club if they all keep getting seized.

It's a reach (basically mirror group) website so they consider metric to be woke communism units.

That has to be one of the worst looking vehicles of all time. Thoughts go out to the officers who had to seize it and see it in person.

Hmm, I know Musk is a knob of some repute but those celebrating this being taken off the road, yeah I can see the point but,

Be careful what you wish for, our road laws are generally about right, not all anal and draconian like some countries and we are allowed to drive pretty much anything on the roads as long as it is insured, VED is paid and it has had an inspection.

I dont think one Cybertruck is going to leave a trail of death and destruction in its wake, no more than any other honking great vehicle.

When you think of all the creations people build, all the stuff imported like Chris Eubank tooling round in a Peterbilt, the "Beast" and then people celebrating one Cybertruck being taken off the road just because its Musk/Tesla ?

I would love to see one, sure kids would respond to seeing it, not suggesting that we allow wholesale importation but this seems a bit vindictive.

It's to excite, frighten and enrage the target audience. Local folk are petrified of big numbers.

Dont perform well ? assume you mean as a truck, the performance in a straight line looks adequate !

So if you allow one how do you say no to the next 5?

They’re either allowed or they’re not.

It hasn’t passed any tests to be deemed safe. So yes it’s good it’s been seized.

Also VED can’t have been paid here as it isn’t road legal. It’s on Albanian plates isn’t it? So almost certainly uninsured too in any practical sense.

Whilst Yianni is still breaking the law by also driving his round on Albanian plates, he is at least in the process of altering numerous parts of the vehicle to meet UK IVA rules, with the intention of very shortly doing an IVA test on it.

He has spent quite a bit of money already doing stuff like having custom made CANBUS systems installed for the LED indicators and tail lights, to make them flash orange instead of red, and separating the tail from brake lights, having side repeaters custom moulded into the mirrors, and things like that.

Whether it will pass an IVA test once modified, who knows, but will be interesting to see. I suspect it will be a lot more difficult than he thinks.
