Unusual insurance situation
Discussion
Hi,
Anyone experienced similar..
Has an accident on a roundabout. Two lanes which lead to 4 dual lane exits.
I'm left lane going straight ahead. Left lane is not left turn only.
Busy traffic nose to nose.
As I approach first exit, there is standing traffic left lane. I continue crawling ahead 2 mph when a vehicle coming around the roundabout right lane cuts across my lane intending on going into the outside lane of 1st junction.
He says I'm obliged to take the exit if I'm in the left lane, I say I'm not because it's my first exit and I am carrying on straight.
He reports this to his insurance company who phone me and say their client is at fault and ask to fix my car.
They send me a letter fully admitting liability.
I book my car in at their garage. They agree to pay for the repair and the garage order the parts and book me in for a couple of days time. I contact the insurer the next day for the courtesy car and they say they can't do it because they have reviewed the situation and a pausing things.
I contact the garage who say the insurance company can pause anything else going forwards but that this work is pre authorised and is going ahead unless they receive anything from the insurance company asking them to stop.
They only changed their mind because their customer is unhappy and are now chasing my insurance for the money they paid to fix my car.
They have no evidence showing I'm at fault, because I'm not.
Can they fix your car and admit liability then change their mind and then chase me for the money? If they wanted to go down the 50 50 route I'd have been very cross but paid the £250 my local garage quoted me rather than the £1800 they are trying to get back off my company.
They have now passed the job to a law firm to recover the money.
Thoughts and advice appreciated.
Thanks

At very worst it all they can claim is 50/50.
My insurance company have passed it to their lawyers to deal with now.
When I first phoned them, they said roundabout with no dash cam and no witnesses it'll probably be a 50 50 even though you don't appear to be at fault, that's just how it goes with roundabouts.
Once the other insurance company sent me a letter admitting liability and offered to fix my car, my insurer said that they would close it as a non fault accident because they aren't paying for it
Then when their insurance company fixed my car and then changed their mind and started chasing the money they said "well we'd have closed it as a 50 50, you fix yours he fixes his but now your is fixed they can keep asking us for the money and we will just simply say no we aren't paying until they issue legal.
If they hadn't have fixed my car. I'd have been angry it was closed as a 50 50 but as part of the bigger picture, I'd have paid to fix my car so that I could tell future insurance companies that I was involved in an accident but the total claim cost was zero.
