Last serviced back in September 2022 - back when Liz Truss was in charge.
Correction - looking on AT it says it has been serviced more or less annually apart from a single gap 2019-21, seems the ad text was cut off on eBay.

It's very low spec, lift being about the only option. No carbon driving zone/extended paddles, base 4-speaker audio, relatively heavier wheels, etc. And it's white, although you may like that.

Personally I would be looking towards one of the other cars in the sub-£80k band with a nicer spec and colour, even if that meant higher mileage.

Extended paddles are a must-have in my opinion. Plenty of cars out there with them. Get it inspected by one of the indies too, very easy to spend £5k on maintenance or fixing corrosion, negating the 'saving' you think you are making.

Absolutely this. If it was £70k and left a slush fund for repairs etc then maybe worth considering

Thanks so much folks, I’ll give this one a miss in that case. Was interested as the garage has a great reputation and it came with a 12 month mac warranty. Will look elsewhere !

As ever, people on here are the first port of call for me when looking at a car given the sheer amount of knowledge! smile

If its got full mclaren warranty then it's being sold sor for its current owner, might be worth a cheeky low bid in a month to see if the owner is desperate lol. There's probably £5k SOR fee in the deal too.

Out of interest what Indie would you suggest given the car is in the NW and both Thorney and V Eng are near 200 miles away? Somewhere local as a point of reference would be useful for me if I end up buying outside of the main dealer network.

Not sure there is anyone. Lack of indies up north is one of the reasons I only kept mine for a reasonable time/ mileage. If there was another option they'd probably do quite well as an indy, Thorney has certainly built a good business so far. Maybe he'll open a " northern monkey" franchise...

I went to see this car last week. The paintwork is immaculate with no signs of corrosion in the usual places. The front carbon splitter has some severe scrapes underneath with a good chunk missing from the underside on the NS edge just breaking through the red 'pin stripe'. The front bumper section in the middle was not clipped in/misaligned where the carbon section fixes to the plastic.

Not bad inside, the leather seat bases a bit saggy (seems common on a few) and the drivers seat front edge leather has come loose - probably easy to put back but suggests something has caused investigation. Battery completely flat so wouldn't turn on, despite it being connected to a CTEK. It has a mix of services from main dealer interspersed with a few from 'GC Motors' Harrogate. Last service Mac Manchester 11/24.

MOT makes interesting reading and I suspect when it failed on the broken springs, they did the work but forgot to retest it only realising when it came to tax it or there was a change of ownership?

On the warranty I was told they only offer a 3-month warranty on their cars. At the time I'd forgot the advert said it had a 12-month Macc warranty so didn't ask thme to clarify.

Previous owner I was informed lived central London so who had it serviced in Manchester I'm not sure.

For paint it's the best I've seen and had it not got external carbon (albeit the advert describes it as 'carbon fibre wrapped exterior details' which is what I though the back valance was?) I would be more interested but sorting out the scrapes was not where I wanted to be.

They've had it a while so I think there's a deal to be done. No pressure on me with the viewing. It's a big outfit that looks to deal on volume and finance.

I bought my R8 from GC in Harrogate, they are a decent prestige car outfit, odd ferrari and lambo there plus a proper garage service area. They aren't a McLaren specialist but it will have had essential oil/filter done etc.
If the battery is damaged from being allowed to go fully flat that's about £3k from McLaren or you'd have to convert to lead acid and have it coded out.
Mclaren warranty will be over £3k minimum with their charge to inspect it plus any additional correction work cost to get it back under OE warranty cover unless you are happy being outside that and bearing the risk directly, you could use Thorney/V then if not.
That probably explains why it appears "cheap".

I assume it's sorted by now - but a year or two back it was impossible to replace batteries because they were "next generation" and needed an adaptor to the harness - and although you could get the batteries, you couldn't get the adaptor..........

I believe you code out the BMS and then fit a lead acid. You lose the info in the dash re charge state but it's a cheaper option.

I didn't explore the fact Hippo stated in the adverts for the car a '12-month McLaren Warranty' and just got the stock 3-months warranty which is less than the CRA 2015 6-month term. If theu did purchase the Mac warranty for the buyer that would be a bonus, but with a px I reckon that would be refolected in their valuation ie I'd be paying for it! I'd have no confidence in the battery either.

From the above there's a suggestion the dealership is good to do business with? Reviews are mixed.

Knowing that 3rd party dealers can't buy/arrange warranty from mclaren then you'd usually assume an SOR type deal with the original owner perhaps involved in a transfer?
Alaister Bols is the only dealer who has I believe agreed a specialist warranty similar to oe with a provider and Thorney obviously offer their own on their specific terms and conditions. Everyone else typically offers a generic 3rd party "caveat emptor" type warranty where you'll struggle to get paid out.
I went to view 3 such cars at different "prestige " car dealerships and not one gave any confidence that stuff like broken springs / hinges etc would be covered.

They took it in as a px, the seller traded against a fully restored F355. The more I get involved in the brand the more sense it makes to buy from a main dealer if you have a px, if not from Thorney or private from a Mac club owner of established provenance.

The was a very cheap £62k 540c on ebay has visual signs of corrosion in the usual places in the photographs. It may not be an issue for some but it is for me. Ad now disappeared so somebody bought it.
