Which Tuscan is best??

Hi, i'm a bit green when it comes to Tuscans, so i was wondering what the best Tuscan is in terms of engines. I've read some horror stories on Speed Six lumps but wondered if this was the only the early ones. I also understand that there's a 4.0 version but not sure which make it is, is that one better?
I'm probably going the lazy route but i'd rather ask owners than so called "experts" or even dealers. Also, what are the specs like in terms of models with Air Con and PAS? Do they need PAS? Is it best to avoid Red Rose conversions?
I was hoping to spend sub £25k for the right car.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thats great fella's, i'm sure they're all really great. The point i was after was, in your opinion, if you're a serial Tuscan owner, which is the best model/engine to go for with my budget?
Do Red Rose conversions tend to be troublesome if used regularly or vice versa?
I was hoping to find one with A/C, are these lots of hassle?
There are definately a few nice ones in the classifieds. Just need to find the right colour combination and spec really.

Rule #1 Running any TVR on a "tight budget" it is not to be recommended.
Running a TVR on a budget, would sensibly include having something tucked away for the equivalent of a TVR-rainy-day. Which could be anytime.
You'll have the choice of 3.6 or 4.0 litre probably. Don't get too hung up about the differences. People may even try and tell you they're the same/no difference/a fag paper between them. By the time you've read everything on PH about Tuscans you won't be worrying about that.
Not sure where your impression of the Red Rose comes from. Typically, an early Red Rose comes with all the goodies (although there's no such thing as "definatley" when you're comparing spec). Air con is nice but a) you can take the roof of and b) it's one more thing to have to service from time to time (soem cars are better than others in this respect).
One thing you do want to look out for with a purchase is history, history and history. An independent inspection from someone who knows their TVRs will be almost a pre-requisite, unless you really know what you're doing.

As for difference amongst different members of the same species, they all go like stink and are mechanically very similar to each other. Suspension upgrades are probably one key area where you will feel an improvement over factory standard or tired components. You would have to drive a couple though to start to feel the difference.

Not put mine up for sale just yet, but I'm looking at some 'Vettes at the weekend to see if I can be swayed away from TVR after 7 years!
Did I mention that mine has new Nitrons, sailed its MOT last Saturday, and has 6 months tax going on this week?
