I’m about to take out a lease on a Polo for my daughter.
VW Financial Services ts&cs state that scheduled servicing and maintenance can only be carried out by authorised VW dealers.
Is this correct? I understood servicing on a new car can be carried out by any VAT registered garage.
TIA

It's correct. They own the car so they get to decide.

What mileage wll she be doing? You used to be able to get service & maint for buttons as on lease the car should be set for llonglife servicing so on a typical 3yr/30K deal they only need one service.

You are thinking about manufacturers' warranty. As said, as it's their car they can write what they'd like in the contract re servicing.

Ok thanks, the service schedule is once per year or every 12k miles. So at least 3 services over the 4 years.

VW service intervals are either fixed or flexible (also called longlife).

All VW Group cars come out of the factory set for flexible servicing. For lease sales they should be left on that. For retail the dealer should ask, but they normally put them on fixed interval. Fixed interval is 12mths, but the mileage is 9300.

If you make sure it's left on flexible servicing it should only need a couple of services, but each one will be similar to a major service becuase the car is only being seen every 18mths or so as it should go to around 18K miles but that can be lower depending on type of use.

Worth asking for service and maint quote (they can include tyres too). I'm out of touch with the pricing but it might only be ~£20mth. Make sure it is the lease service though - I think it's called "fixed cost maintenance", not the service deal sold to retail customers.

Its worth shopping around between VW dealers as they can vary in price, on assumption you have a few nearby that makes it worth the travel.

VW offer service plans which get discounted at various points in the year. At one point they were doing service, mot and a warranty for used cars at £25 a month.

Don't worry yourself; they don't check. At the end of the lease, BCA will inspect the car, and it'll be off to auction. They don't check the history or anything like that; they are just concerned about the car's condition and whether there are any lights on the dash. If you've had it serviced and the shop has reset the service light, they won't even bother.

If after the fact, assuming BCA have signed it off, VWFS contacts you regarding owt - just ignore them.
