An obvious answer you might think (with your ears!)

What I mean is, I’m beginning to get into a back into hifi but it’s been many years since I’ve really listened to music. And now I can’t really remember how I ever did. What I mean is - would you put on some music and literally just sit back and listen to it, without doing anything else? Or do you read while listening? A book? iPad? make models (I make rc cars / modelling) Etc

I kind of feel more ADHDey now I’m older as I will often be browsing the internet at the same time as watching tv / films etc so I now find it unlikely that I could just sit and listen without reading or doing something else simultaneously.

It worries me somewhat getmecoat

If you want to sit and listen to music, er, just do that?

Does anyone do that, is what I’m asking. Or, is everyone generally doing something else at the same time.

I am usually working, reading, driving or tinkering in the garage.

I sit down for a couple of hours having selected a few CD’s. Used to be once or twice a week but I have neglected it a bit recently and need to get back to it.

Really good question. I still spend one to two evenings a week 100 focused on listening to music, to the exclusion of all else, but I recognize your comment about your mind being more wired nowadays. I find it takes a bit more effort to free my mind from everything else as I get older, but to me that is the point of having a really good hifi system, to lose yourself completely and just marvel at the beauty of the performance.

I absolutely can't read while listening to music - I don't want distractions while reading.

I might have music on while doing other things - i.e. cooking / cleaning, obviously driving etc. But if I want to "listen" to music, it will usually be relaxing on the sofa with several glasses of whisky (and it would also mean the wife is out, since we do not share music tastes).

Up until recently I listened via Apple Music played via an iPad through my amp with the occasional vinyl when I had time.

However, I’ve moved my system into a spare room and got my 1000 odd CD’s out the garage and have been listening to those.

It weird because I have nothing extra special, most of the CD’s are on Apple Music but having a physical disk somehow makes a difference.

Normally while doing something else, working, driving, gym, etc. Been a long time since I just sat and listened to an album end to end, needs doing.

Since writing my thread I’ve been listening more, and have in fact spent some time just ‘listening’ / watching the somg’s youtube vids sometimes (I stream, no vinyl!).

I’m in the fortunate position of having a bit of a man cave where my retro HI FI lives, Technics SL1210, NAD amp, mini disc player, cassette player, etc..

I try to make time to sit and listen to music in there but I find I don’t do it as often as I’d like.

Majority of my listening is through a Marantz CD receiver, streamer jobby but very rare I just kick back and listen. Usually on while I’m on with other stuff.

I consume music in different ways depending on what I am doing. Generally it’s always on in the background when working or cooking etc or in my ears when outside or in the car etc. I do have the main setup in the lounge though and I will just sit and listen without doing other things. It’s easy to get distracted by your phone and other things I guess but there is still a pleasure for me to just sit and listen

Same here, even managed to find time to sit and listen to an album all the way through without doing anything else at the same time. Was a good prompt smile

Generally always doing something else, usually browsing the internet, working (WFH), watching music videos, playing games. Generally never just listen to music, but don't get me wrong, I absolutely love music, keeps me sane quite honestly. I also really value having good quality music too (by which I mean good quality sources on good quality equipment, those who don't are missing out).

Always when doing something else, I don't think I'd have the patience to sit there just listening to music.

Mostly the winter months, I'll pick a few records, cd's or something to stream and have it playing whilst a setup the log fire. Normally get a good 45 minutes to an hour before the wife comes in with food ready to watch a show or a movie.

I actually never have background music on. I listen to music pretty much daily - either on the hifi in the evenings, or in the car when we do longer journeys. I have some great earbuds, but nothing beats the hifi system at home.

I use Tidal, as exploring is great.

Mrs A and I typically listen to streamed playlists on Friday and Saturday evenings over a bottle of wine and then dinner.

Usually put on a single song and let Spotify create a playlist from that so that we often get to hear great music that we would otherwise be unaware of.

Either through an Alexa or the 5:1 system.
