Where to Stay - Stuttgart, 2 nights, Porsche and Merc museum

As per the title, I'm off to to the ring, then down to Stuttgart for a few days in July with my two lads (16 and 18). I've sorted an airbnb in Adenau for the ring days, now sorting Stuttgart.

Any recommendations - we are going to Merc and Porsche Museums, will check out what else to so ? We will have a car, so keen to avoid too many traffic / parking issues,, so not sure whether to stay central or elsewhere, or a small town outside of the city ?
