Superb Sportline is back and packing 265hp
Skoda's sportiest Superb makes a welcome return - especially as it retains the GTI-powered 4x4...
While we can all dream of a Superb vRS with nearly 500hp, enormous AP Racing brakes and a tasty set of coilovers, that ain’t gonna happen. Those who do fancy a slightly sportier Skoda (easy for you to say), however, can now be comforted by the addition of the Sportline model to the latest fourth-generation Superb. Skoda promises ‘striking looks with exceptional practicality, and agile driving dynamics.’
As per pretty much every sort-of-sporty spec ever, the Sportline is available with a whole host of powertrains, including petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options. There are four-wheel-drive models, too. Of most interest to PH, of course, is the 265hp 2.0 TSI petrol, continuing the Skoda tradition of offering up hot Golf powertrains in its biggest models. Expect 0-62mph in around six seconds and 155mph, thanks to a standard fit DSG plus the 4x4.
But that powertrain is already available with the plush L&K trim; Skoda hopes buyers who want a snazzier look and slightly sharper drive will be tempted by the Sportline. The new model receives gloss black accents (including roof rails for the wagon), unique bumpers, 19-inch ‘Torcular’ wheels and new badges. Kinda smart, right? Standard kit also includes standard DCC dampers with a 15mm lower ride height than other Superbs, as well as progressive steering for ‘a more agile, dynamic feel at speed.’ It won’t be transformatively different, the Sportline, though it’s nice to know this is more than black Skoda lettering on the boot.
Inside, there’s something called a ‘Sportline Design Selection’ included, which we’re not 100 per cent sure on. More familiar are sports seats - heated and massaging - in addition to black headlining, aluminium pedal covers and a new leather three-spoke wheel. The latter sounds inconsequential, though looks a whole lot better than the weird two-spoke setup on regular models.
All six engine options of the Skoda Superb Sportline can be ordered now, with prices kicking off at £42,290 for a 1.5, 150hp hatch. The estate carries a £1,300 premium, and is the only Sportline shape available with the 204hp plug-in hybrid (£48,060). The same power is available via a 2.0 TSI (£43,665 as a hatch), with your diesel options being a front-drive 150hp (from £42,465) or a 4x4 193hp (£46,080). The 265hp Sportline will cost £46,695 as a hatch, or £47,995 as an estate.
Which, yes, looks quite a lot, because absolutely everything does these days. Thank heavens, then, for the classifieds and the previous Superb; this handsome 280hp hatch from 2023 is for sale as a Skoda Approved car with just 3,000 miles at less than £32k.

The really offensive interior design is that the rectangular driver's instrument display sits in front of the rounded instrument binnacle and is wider than it. It's just really weird, like they changed their mind half-way through designing it on the screen size, but had already moulded all the dashboards, so just bunged it in front instead.
