I use both Fax and email but on occasion need to fax lots of documents, as this is very time consuming and costly I want to be able to fax from my PC (via email?).

I did, many years ago have a programme (don't remember what it was) that let me fax from PC using a the modem but I've lost that and presumably there are better ones available now, I am on a broadband connection if that makes any difference.

I know there are many programmes that can do this but am looking for advice for a simple, reliable and preferably free & downloadable programme to do this, any ideas?

Try Winfax, works pretty well when you get it set up.

What version of Windows are you on? Most have faxing built in.

An internet faxing service is probably the easiest way.

Not sure about windows but on my mac version of Office any document can be saved as PDF, then print as Fax.
I can either stick the phone line into my mac and dial away, or use my ISP's service on dsl ( this costs though so i don't bother).

XP, on an old PC (win 95/98) I had a programme that worked just fine although it actually dialled up the Fax m/c to do so, I'm looking for something as simple as clicking 'Fax' that is 100% reliable.

That seems to be offering a 'virtual fax no' but I already have an established Fax line for receiving just looking for a way to send faxes without having to print & feed sheets through a fax machine.

We used this one at work for a while until the trial period finished, worked very well. That was 3 or 4 years ago so may be better now.

Dunno? I'm on Windows & not got a phone line connection to the PC, so would need to do through the broadband connection.

Interesting but as I'm already paying for a fax line, so sending faxes is 'free' I'd really like one that costs nothing to send but I don't need to receive - would that type of service need to go through a phone line? I suppose I could connect the PC to the fax line for sending and still have the Fax for sending and all receiving.
I'm not quite ready to completely ditch the fax machine yet.
